For some time now EvrazHolding management company has been clearly manifesting its leading positions in Russian steel industry. Having large integrated production facilities the company is anxious to secure their maximum efficiency. Along the way EvrazHolding is careful enough to take into account world experience of using information systems.
In the last several years efforts have been underway at the Nizhny Tagil Iron & Steel Works, which is incorporated in EvrazHolding, to master modern systems of computerized control and data management. SAP (the company headquartered in Walldorf, Germany) particularly stands out among suppliers of such systems. It is the worlds largest creator of inter-corporate software and one of three leading independent suppliers of software.
The company achieved a special success with its mySAP.com system, which is a complex base for conducting e-business in present-day economic conditions.
COOPERATION BETWEEN SAP AND EVRAZHOLDING IS RECOGNIZED AS PROMISING
MySAP.com allows companies personnel, customers and business partners to undertake joint business operations and provides support for databases, applications, operational systems and hardware furnished by almost all large suppliers.
So, it was no accident that the management of EvrazHolding showed much interest in a visit to Russia by co-chairman of the SAP AG board of management and CEO Hasso Plattner.
At the meeting devoted to furthering relations between two companies Andrei Sevenuk, the executive director of EvrazHolding, put forward views of the Russian side on developing the system of managing enterprises incorporated in the holding and the role of new e-business systems in this process.
In its strategy of expanding the information infrastructure EvrazHolding pays special attention to introducing ERP systems. Receiving on-line consolidated information through these systems will help make appropriate decisions on managing resources both at individual production sites and the holding as a whole. The recoupment of such projects in Russian conditions is high enough. Significant improvement of enterprises financial and economic indicators is registered even during their introduction. In particular, internal business processes are being optimized and the very quality of decisions gets better.
After taking a complete control over assets of West Siberian Steel Corporation (ZSMK) the holdings managers faced a task of unifying accounting and control systems at its two works ZSMK and NTMK. Working out specific integrated solutions makes the cooperation between EvrazHolding and SAP AG particularly important.
Hasso Plattner highly appreciated this cooperation and assured EvrazHolding of fully supporting projects to introduce SAP software solutions in its operations. He pointed out that as far as his company is concerned, it is particularly important to expand ties with enterprises of the Russian industry.
SAP was founded in 1972 by five former IBM system engineers. At present the companys personnel numbers more than 23,700 people, who are working in over 50 countries. More than 13,500 clients are applying SAP software, there are over 36,000 installations and 10 million users. The software is used by companies of all sizes. More than half of the worlds 500 largest are among them. Besides, clients of SAP include such global dotcom companies as barnesandnoble.com, Westell Technology and Streamline.com.

Software solutions for steel industry are considered quite sophisticated and their introduction at the industrys enterprises is a long-lasting matter. "That is why it is so much important to optimally arrange processes of interaction between suppliers of software solutions to businesses as well as between enterprises and consultants, who provide assistance with their introduction", stressed Andrei Sevenuk.
In the opinion of these companies representatives, the partnership of SAP and EvrazHolding looks promising and mutually advantageous. It is important that the holdings top officials are paying much attention to the need of developing information technologies at incorporated enterprises and are ready to make considerable investments for this purpose.
